Here's what we do in Brighton to celebrate the solstice. This event is called Burning the Clocks. Groups make paper lanterns and walk them down to the seafront where they are burnt in a great big firey inferno. Fire. FIRE!!! Fuck yeah!!! I was with the University of Brighton 'team' (it's where I work). Our take on the theme of 'The Tower of Babel' were some babel fish and a giant ear. Not everyone got it, but you could watch the faces of the ones that did as recognition spread across their face. I was carrying the battery pack for the giant ear. Not every day you could say that.

Brilliant!
God why didn't I move to Brighton years ago. The beach was always so cutting edge...
historians in 50 years will love all these great moments that you're archiving for them. more faces!
That's it. I'm coming to Brighton for the next Solstice celebration and I want to make paper lanterns with you.
Makes me want to get sparklers out in the cold streets and dance.
I don't think that bloke in the firey suit and white gloves was part of the performance. I've seen him doing exactly the same when there's no fire, no parade and no music.
Brighton has some oddities.
Burn em down! Great footage.
